The Israeli army has confirmed it carried out a series of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah military infrastructure in Lebanon. The strikes hit several locations, including a weapons production and storage facility in the Beqaa Valley, rocket launch sites, and other military positions in southern Lebanon.
According to Israeli military sources, the operation was launched in response to Hezbollah’s attempts to reestablish a military presence in areas where it had previously withdrawn. The Israeli Defense Forces stated that these actions by Hezbollah violated the terms of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
Lebanese state media reported that Israeli aircraft conducted three strikes in the Beqaa Valley, including two near the town of Harbata and one near Halbata. These towns are located deep inside Lebanese territory, roughly 100 kilometers from the Israeli border. Explosions were heard across the region, and the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that at least two people were killed in the attacks.
In a separate incident near the border town of Houla, Israeli troops opened fire on a group of individuals who had reportedly crossed a Lebanese army barrier and approached Israeli positions. One woman was reportedly killed, and several others were injured. The Israeli military said it was unaware of any civilian casualties and that it had followed standard procedures to disperse the group.
The strikes come just days before a key deadline in the ceasefire agreement, which required Israeli forces to complete their withdrawal from southern Lebanon. Israeli officials have indicated they will not fully meet the deadline, citing Hezbollah’s continued violations and the Lebanese army’s limited enforcement.
A senior Lebanese defense official recently claimed that over 90 percent of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure south of the Litani River had been dismantled. However, Israeli officials remain skeptical and continue to monitor the area for signs of renewed Hezbollah activity.
The Israeli military emphasized that it will continue to act against any threats and prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its capabilities. International observers, including the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, have called for restraint and urged both sides to uphold the ceasefire terms to avoid further escalation.
