One Killed, One Injured in Russian Drone Strike on Bytytsia, Sumy Region

Russian Drone Strike Kills One, Injures Another in Ukraine’s Sumy Region

On July 6, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the village of Bytytsia in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to another. The strike occurred around 4:00 p.m. local time and involved four unmanned aerial vehicles that targeted the Bytytskyi Starostat, a local administrative area within the Sumy community.

According to regional officials, the body of the deceased was discovered during a post-strike inspection. The injured individual is receiving medical treatment. The attack caused widespread damage to residential homes, with at least 25 houses affected and five either severely damaged or completely destroyed.

Local authorities, including the heads of the Sumy Regional and City Military Administrations, confirmed that the drone strike was part of a broader wave of attacks that included guided bombs and missiles. Emergency crews are continuing search and rescue operations, and there are concerns that more people may be trapped under the rubble.

Officials condemned the attack as a deliberate targeting of civilians and called for increased international support to strengthen air defenses in vulnerable border regions. The use of drones in civilian areas has become a growing concern, with repeated strikes on towns and villages far from the front lines.

The Sumy region, located near the Russian border, has seen a rise in drone and artillery attacks in recent months. Ukrainian authorities believe these strikes are intended to destabilize border communities and stretch national defense resources.

The incident in Bytytsia highlights the ongoing threat to civilians in Ukraine’s northern regions and underscores the need for continued humanitarian and military support from the international community.
