Knife Attack in Nalchik Leaves Policeman Wounded, One Attacker Killed, Second Suspect on the Run
A police officer in Nalchik, the capital of Russia’s Kabardino-Balkaria region, was seriously wounded after being attacked by two individuals armed with knives. The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. in the central part of the city. According to regional authorities, the officer sustained multiple stab wounds and is currently in critical condition.
The head of the region, Kazbek Kokov, confirmed that medical teams are working to save the officer’s life. He praised the swift response of law enforcement, who shot and killed one of the attackers at the scene. The second suspect managed to escape and remains at large.
Security forces have launched a large-scale manhunt, sealing off parts of the city and reviewing surveillance footage. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, and authorities have opened a criminal case under charges related to the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
The attack has raised concerns about public safety in Nalchik, a city that has experienced sporadic violence in the past. Officials have increased security in public areas and urged residents to remain alert while the search for the second suspect continues.
