Malawi Funeral Procession for Chilima Turns Tragic, 4 Dead, Hit by One of the Vehicles, 14 Injured in Ntcheu Village
A vehicle in the funeral procession of the late Malawian Vice President crashed into mourners in a village in the center of the African country last night, killing four people and injuring 12 others.
Police disclosed this information today. The vehicle was part of a convoy carrying the body of Saulos Chilima, who died in a plane crash at the beginning of last week.
The vehicle plunged into the crowd in Ntcheu, a village in central Malawi. The car, along with other military, police, and civilian vehicles, was heading to Nsipe, Chilima’s hometown, 180 kilometers south of the capital Lilongwe, before his scheduled burial today (declared a public holiday). Thousands of people had lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the vice president’s casket.
