The latest update from the Kenyan Ministry ofthe Interior revealed these figures. The previous tally, which wasreleased on May 18th, had indicated a lower number of fatalities. Thetorrential rain and ensuing floods have devastated homes, roads,bridges, and other critical infrastructure throughout the affectedregion.

Notably,the death toll in Kenya due to these floods now surpasses that of thefloods triggered by the meteorological phenomena El Nino at the closeof the previous year. The severity of the situation prompted PopeFrancis to extend his solidarity with the citizens of Kenya duringtoday's general audience at the Vatican. During his address, heexpressed, “I wish to convey my spiritual closeness to the peopleof Kenya at this time when severe floods have tragically claimed manylives, left others injured, and caused extensive destruction.”
